Throughout my residency with the Statesman, the concierge team has been both considerably kind and helpful. John, Simba, and Grace — to name a few on the team— have made my stay all the better!
Simba Murety, Grace and Statesman stuff team are the best people in Statesman. I'm impressed with the level of service and friendliness they consistently provide. From my move-in day, the staff has gone above and beyond to make my living experience truly exceptional. They are attentive, knowledge, and always willing to assist. Also, prioritize building positive relationships with residents.
Two words: Rat infested. The building is infested with rats running in your walls and coming into your actual room. Had to move out because it got so bad. Spoke to 5 other tenants and they had the same problem. Their loading dock reeks of garbage. The laundry rooms smells like mold and the issue was not fixed during our duration of living there. The staff is friendly and the maintenance team is friendly but that does not mean anything when the apartment is unlivable and unsanitary to live in.
Sima is so amazing! He takes the time to learn your name and greet you every time you pass by. He is very proficient at what he does and very caring. Honestly he needs a raise. 10/10 service.
This place seemed to be a life save when I was in school. The studios currently rent for over twice the price as when I lived here.
Gemma and Juanita helped me move right in, in a day or two. I had a clean apartment, never any problems. Was allowed to add family to the lease for summer stays, no problem. Spacious studio, about 450-500 sq ft, which was perfect for my needs. Close to everything on GW campus. There weren't too many frills, otherwise - laundry was in the basement and there was a small gym.
There was a neighbor whose apt smelled of pot all the time, it seeped into the halls. But the trash room was usually clean and not too smelly.
They did events for the renters sometimes in the lobby. You might choose to avoid those to keep away nosey neighbors.
This was the best rental situation I had in over a decade of living in the DMV area. Sad, but true. Especially because I'm not sure whether anyone was ever in my apartment to mess with my things - I think rentals are not particularly safe because you never know whether anyone uses a government badge or money to buy their way in. Have a nanny cam! I got a security camera after I thought about it.
It's hit or miss with any living situation for students in the District - with dorms and roommates, rentals, condos/co-ops, there is always a chance it's not safe or will have issues. The best you can get is a single family home in a safe part of the DMV metro area with top security measures in place. Otherwise, buying a condo/co-op and locking it securely with deadbolts and security cams is a second choice - but condo/co-op buildings and associations can be a nightmare to deal with, and most students don't want to have to deal with the building board.
I warn students in rental situations in the District to take their own safety precautions, not just rely on the building management and front desk guard.
Terrence went above and beyond to repair my sink and garbage disposal unit this evening. When he first entered my apartment, he noticed I wasn't wearing shoes and asked if he should take his shoes off, which I found to be very courteous. And he walked me through step-by-step what the problem was, why it occurred, and what he was doing to resolve it. After he fixed my sink, he offered to sterilize my kitchen sink, countertop, and floors, and overall he was extremely polite. I highly recommend Terrence should any maintenance issues arise!
The leasing office has been so helpful. Particularly Lauren, who has gone above and beyond! The whole rental process has been wonderful. I would highly recommend the Statesman!
It is the easiest place to leave. Every request/problem it is solved within the same day or the day after, at the latest. Emergencies are solved immediately. All the staff (specially Andrew, Simba, John, Tommy, Pedro, and Grace) are very very friendly and helpful. I trust all in the list blindly.
Yesterday I accidentally threw my keys through the garbage shoot and today I got my keys replacement. Andrew gave me access to my apartment immediately after the problem, even in 4th of July (a national holiday). He saved my evening!
Simba, for instance, always welcomes everyone with a great attitude and it’s always there to resolve problems and connect you with the right staff. Same for John and Grace.
Pedro and Tommy always fix anything in the apartment within the same day with graceful attitude.
Strongly suggest anyone to live here.
